Nevada Mule Deer help (Unit 231)
« on: August 17, 2016, 04:56:54 PM »
hey guys and gals. Looking for someone willing to share some advice on unit 231 in Nevada. A relative of mine has a rare opportunity to get a tag for that unit, but he wants to make sure the unit is what he is looking for, after a long trip to Arizona last year to hunt a "top notch unit" that turned out to be a huge disappointment. The guy he has been talking to said he has seen 12 bucks over 200 inches and a bunch at 180 inches since the beginning of the month. Curious if anyone else has any information or experience in the unit? We have a busy fall as is, and want to make sure its going to be worth the trip down there if he acquires the tag. Anyone have anything they'd love to share? Or references?

231 is supposed to be a really good unit.  If he went with a good guide 200 inches is probably possible.  If he goes unguided and he wants 200 inches it will probably be a huge disappointed.

I know a couple guys that have drawn the last few years; both ate the tags.

That being said, it's a tremendous moisture year!

Thats what we have heard. The guy we were talking to admitted that last year was a tough year, but this year the feed is amazing and the antler growth has been great

It's one of the best units in the state if you know where to go. Will pm you some areas to check out that will produce some 180 bucks if their willing to hike

Hit the big burn east of Pioche.

Watch out for wild horses.

They have smoked a couple Giants in there already this year.  One being 214" net. Lots of big deer and lots of smart deer. I know the guide that booked the governor tag hunt and they are on an absolute pig.

Best advise I can give is get big glass and let the glass do the walking. Nothing beats 15x56 on tripod for that country

I heard it was from 231 but I'm not positive. Should be a great trip. I hoped for that archery tag for the 7 years I was down there but wasnt lucky enough to get it. They had a fairly wet spring so antler growth should be pretty decent this year.

I know it was super tough towards the end of the season.   Quite a few big bucks got killed early on and there was no weather late.

It was 80 degrees when I shot my buck on the last day of the season.
