Idaho winter kill better than expected
« on: April 12, 2017, 07:59:24 AM »
Looks like the expected winter kill this year was way over hyped in some parts of Idaho, so much so that there will be a any weapon OTC cow season in some units outside of the national forest.

It's definitely not over hyped, are all the deer dead.  No of course not. That doesn't mean it was no big deal or over hyped, I have probably found 30+ dead deer this year that appeared to have starved to death. I have not found a single elk I believed starved. There is no way around it the deer numbers are way down, blue tongue came through year before last and now this deep lowland snow. It's just not going to be the kind of hunting it has been for deer for a few years.

most of those cow hunts are capped tags so there's still an element of control to harvest numbers.
