Anything derived from a nail-gun cartridge has gotta be cool plus with available 15 grain bullets the kick has to be near zero ?

I have one of the HB SS Savage Bmag 17 WSM's and it shoots very well.  I've done some upgrades to mine and also had a couple inches chopped off the barrel when it was getting threaded.  The 17 WSM definitely hits harder than the 17 HMR, especially, when you start getting out past 100 yards and beyond.

Unlike the 17 HMR there really isn't very many choices for a 17 WSM.  You have the Savage Bmag which isn't without its quirks but the HB SS models that come with a laminated stock seem to generally shoot pretty well.  Then there is the Ruger 77/17 WSM which is a really nice looking piece but they cost nearly double what the Bmag does and only really shoot on par with the Bmag.  The trigger in the Ruger is generally pretty bad but is fixable with parts from the aftermarket world.  VQ makes a semi auto version but they carry a big price tag and just kind of shoot ok.  Franklin Armory makes a complete AR style 17 WSM as well as an upper 17 WSM kit but they are pretty pricey as well and just kind of shoot on par with the Bmag.

Eric Mayer has varminter.com and he's tested about every model of 17 WSM out there and has done a review including 100 yard group testing with all of them.  I've talked to Eric on multiple occasions and he seems like a pretty straight forward no BS guy and gives pretty honest reviews of things.

IMO, if a person wants a 17 WSM get one of the HB SS Bmag models that comes with a laminated stock, they're fairly inexpensive and generally shoot as well, often better, than any of the others.  If the Bmag just doesn't do it for you, I'd skip past all the other 17 WSM's and look at getting a CZ 527 17 Hornet.

They really do a job on the whistle pigs. I used to shoot them off my porch at 70 yards or so and it was ugly to say the least.. split 'em in half.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Big enough for coyotes?

It certainly wouldn't be my first choice but if I hunted in a rimfire only area, it would definitely be the top choice.

They are pretty popular in the Kittitas Valley inside the irrigation district. ( it's a rim fire only area.)

In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.
