Best Hog Hunt Places in Texas?
« on: May 15, 2018, 12:45:11 PM »
I want to take my wife on a hog hunting trip to Texas, but I want to make it a comfortable trip for her since she had hip surgery a few weeks and we would be going in a couple months. So a place with all inclusive accommodations and with out crazy b.s. rules and prices would be awesome. I dont want to pay 10 grand to hunt hogs when I can do it for free elsewhere. I just want her to get out and enjoy herself. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Practical accuracy and a packable rifle.

Watch out for fenced hunts with farm pigs that are advertised as wild hunts.

There is a big fenced operation in Gonzales that preys on out of staters and they keep changing the name to avoid bad reviews.

A lot of the all inclusive are fenced with back end costs. Also make sure you get a place with AC.

Stasneys Cook Ranch out of Albany Texas, they should be online. About 10 years ago I won a trip with Federal Cartridge for a turkey hunt. While there we saw gazillions of Gigantic hogs. And of course bazillions of mid siize and little ones. There should be prices online, or just call them. I have never been on a hog hunt but the country and the amount of hogs were intriquing. As I was leaving to go to the plane for the trip back. I asked the manager of the ranch how much it would cost to hunt the hogs. He said it was $100 a day and all the hogs you could shoot.. I am sure its probably not that, and maybe he just thought I was a cool guy??? But he also was willing to trade work, remodel work on the buildings for hunts.

I went here https://www.independenceranch.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhOmSob2x2wIVjQOGCh3SdACiEAAYAiAAEgK_bfD_BwE with a bunch of guys.   Good time.  Cost $149-$299 depending on deal for 3 days two nights room and board.   Plus $1 lb for any hogs you shoot.

That is a canned hunt and the owner has a criminal history.

Most hogs in Texas are not shot inside a fence. They are shot on farms.

In one of the reviews the neighbor talks about petting the animals through the fence.

So basically a petting zoo.

Have you hunted there?  We did for 3 days.  I shot mine with my feet in the air at 12” with a 12 ga slug and hog died at my feet.  Ive seen safer petting zoo’s. Heh.  The real excitement is capturing them live off the farms and selling them to the hog hunt ranches. Hard on dogs tho.  Buddys got cut up bad last winter.

No I have not hunted at Independence Ranch. It's a canned hunt with domestic pigs.

I slaughtered domestic pigs when I was 12. Not gonna pay airfare to do it in Texas.

And those canned hunts are not buying wild hogs from the farms.

They're breeding them because it's easier and cheaper.

I went to Keechi creek. It was a fenced hunt which i found out after I got there. They told us they trap the hogs off site and release them on the farm. We stayed in a cabin on site and were pretty much allowed to do anything we wanted. I had a lot of fun.

Thanks everyone, Im never guna pay someone for a canned hunt. I got in touch with an old Army buddy and he has a family farm a little over 600 acres down there. We made a deal to come kill some hogs at his place and come fall he can come hunt at my place back east.
