Filled One WA Tag This Year
« on: January 10, 2019, 10:08:49 AM »
My good pal and I began walking into a favorite spot before light, wind was blowing pretty good, and not in the most favorable direction. Upon our approach to the draw that we wanted to glass first, light was just beginning to barely give way to darkness. As we ease up to the glassing spot, we hear "Thump"Thump"Thump"....Dang! We jumped a deer! Still to dark to see if it was a buck, but it was a single deer and that dang wind I am sure contributed to bumping that deer out. We get settled into a good spot to glass from and anxiously await better light to glass the surrounding draw and landscape. We quietly discuss some facts...My son was playing hockey vs Spokane in Tri Cities at noon, I had a buck and a doe tag, I had help to drag out a deer if blessed to have an opportunity....We would need to be home by 9am to ensure skinning, and time to drive to the ice rink....Hey! There's a deer coming. A single young doe...she walks right by us at 50 yards...she looks young, not a fawn, but not a big mature doe either... lets wait for a buck...0730, we spot a group of deer coming up the draw. All does and fawns so far. The deer hold up in the bottom to our right. No bucks in tow with this group. We discuss the fact that we could take that big doe with out any fawns clinging to her, and probably make it home in time to make the drive to the hockey game. My buddy ranges the deer, 184 yards. I settle the .243win in on the shooting stix, and wait for her to clear out and be broadside. The cross hairs line up tight behind her left front shoulder. Pow! The deer mule kicks, and ineffectively runs about 20 feet and is down for the count! Pictures, gutted and a two man drag to the pickup. Hung and skinned, some fresh clothes, made it to the game half way through the 1st period. Great fun, and thankful for my good friends. We never did find a 3pt in WA. We, including my little Son, were on a few bucks that turned out to be 2pts. It was a great season none the less.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

nice. Filled one tag as well
You know your hunt went well when you had a shot that was unethical and you never took it, even if you never got your bull.

That doe solved the scheduling conflicts nicely.  Great job!
