rate this bear
« on: April 25, 2019, 07:36:55 PM »
I thought this would be kind of fun. I spotted this bear while scouting/coyote hunting last night and got a few short video clips. My GoPro was dead so I had to just hold my phone up to the spotter.

Not a valid vimeo URL
I watched this bear for about 30 minutes and my guess is that it's about 3 years old and in the neighborhood of 175-200#. The back end on it looks pretty heavy for this time of year, so I don't think it's just a young bear with a thick coat. The face and ears don't make it look very old though, so I could be way off. Either way, if I seen him on August 1st I'm taking the shot!

I think you’re a little heavy on weight.

Young bear for sure. Lean build and thin face.

Nice bear and thanks for sharing!

I rate him as two thumbs up
or maybe four stars.

I would have loved to have seen it in person.

Heavy back end and slender head maybe a sow?

Not that it matters. I’d be sending the heat!  :chuckle:

That’s what’s throwing me off. The fur on the front legs and shoulders is pretty thick but the back end is much thinner, but doesn’t show up well on those clips though. I’ve seen a couple other bear so far this spring that all looked much leaner on the back end but were a similar over all size.

You’re all running small bores, I was thinking more along the lines of 300-350gr from one of the 375s.

Young bear, narrow head, big ears..... Probably would be surprised with how much "ground shrinkage" this bear would have... maybe 120 lbs. in my opinion....

I rate it good enough!  No cubs, I'm sending it.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
