Sea sick..... Best wave wind and surf predicting sites
« on: June 03, 2019, 06:12:41 PM »
So since I seem to get sea sick once in a while as I age I was wondering on the best sites for predicting swell, waves wind chop, gap between waves etc etc. Especially for the PNW Sekiu, La push, and Neah bay.  Gonna try the sea bands, maybe the patch or some ginger.  It's probably the drinking the night before when I am with all my buddies (seriously) But I recall getting sick as a kid when I fished with my grandpa every week at Pt NO PT.   I captain in rough water it does not bother me when moving only when I stop and don't have land in site.  Thanks!

Dramamine works, either way you could fish the Sekiu bay and stay out of the swells but still have great fishing.

Go to walmart and get Bonine, it does not make you drowsy or weird dry mouth feeling. Take one the night before at bed and take one an hour before you get on the boat.

I’m an expert on seasickness, I can look at rough water and get sick.  I have tried everything that has been said and has yet to be said, everything!!  One prescription drug works, Zofran!  Tell your doctor your going fishing and you need it, no side affects except might plug you up if you take it a few days in a row.  I did puke on it once, but that was at neah bay when it was as rough as it can get, but I still made it a couple hours before I got sick. Otherwise I’d have been sick in minutes.

Magicseaweed or surfline are good sites for surfing info but have a lot of info on buoys. It takes some learning to use what you are looking at but on the bright side, there's a lot of surf cams to watch. Between the ocean and the mountains, we live in one of the most beautiful places in the world

That sounds like me! :chuckle:

I tried everything short of a prescription and never had good luck with anything. The only way for me to not get sick is to avoid diesel engines. I could take my boat out in some pretty sketchy conditions and not have a problem, soon as I get on a boat with a diesel engine I'm done. I tried to tough it out a couple times now and it's just not worth it any more. I should have kept my boat. :bash:

Windy is the best I have seen, for our area NOAA is vague and most often wrong.

Windfinder.com is a good site.  Don't waste your time with over the counter medicines.   Ask your Dr. for Scopolamine.

I’ve been in 90’ waves and never gotten seasick, Neah Bay can’t be that bad.🤔

WindyTY has been pretty accurate from AK to here. Rain forecast is a bit off now n then, but wind, waves, swell, etc. have been pretty right on.

Windfinder.com is a good site.  Don't waste your time with over the counter medicines.   Ask your Dr. for Scopolamine.

I have used the scopolamine patch in the past in order to avoid seasickness. Then later determined that I don't need it since I don't get seasick. Be prepared......a side effect can include mental confusion.
