Private forest land access
« on: September 30, 2019, 07:09:08 AM »
So does anyone know how to or where to go to get access to closed forest lands like weyerhauser or Pope and Talbot? I know some of these forest management companies offer hunters the ability to access there lands for a fee. I know I'm late this year but was thinking about it for next year. Just want to start researching this for future seasons. I'm looking for websites and other info anyone's got. I mostly hunt the west side. Thanks in advance.

Here is the link to Weyerhauser's website where you can search the different permits they offer...

Thanks for the info on weyerhauser lands. Has anyone ever bought a permit from Green Diamond? Is the permit from Green Diamond good for all permit only land? I can't find anything that tells me if I buy a permit what area it is good for.

It is better to be consistently incorrect than inconsistently correct...

Since you mentioned Pope by name, I think you can access that land via walk-in without a fee, though they might have a for fee area or two that I'm not aware of.  Check the website they have for more up to date info as mine is probably about a year old.

There are also a very very small number of weyerhaueser parcels in Wahkiakum county that are free to access because they have easements to state lands and a deal was made to open them for all, but this is all new and in one area and there has been very little out there about it.  Matter of fact, I haven't even seen the official info one which parcels, but from the info wdfw has released I can guess pretty well.

At any rate, most timber companies allow access without fees (almost all walk-in only), but a few of the bigger companies charge for access.
