Finally Broke my coyote dry spell
« on: December 01, 2019, 11:12:01 PM »
So I have called in 3 this year and they have all given me the slip. I have been out half a dozen times or so every ear but its been 6 or 7 years since I connected and only had called in like 2 over that time. Finally got myself a decent electronic caller that I have wanted for a while. Got the Johnny Stewart GS2. This morning was my first day out with it. Had my first 2 sets spoiled by goose hunters walking out through the fields near me. I wish I had waited to try that spot on a non-goose day. But oh well, no worries. Went to another spot. 5 min into the caller being on with the "grown cottontail" sound and I saw a coyote circling around a marshy patch 200 yards out. He came around on dry land and through some tall dead grass. I could see his ears clearly and down his neck a little through the grass. Knowing it was just dead grass and he was almost directly facing me I just aimed through the grass to where his neck meets his chest would be. It was about 30 yards. Didnt see him drop but didnt see him run either. I finished calling and then walked over there through the grass. He never took a step. I think he had his head down out in front of him like a sneak position. Saw a big exit hole behind his right ear. It was Federal Copper sabot slugs as its all I have that is not lead for coyote at the moment and this area is strictly no lead. His left eye was gone. Looking closer, I hit him square in the eye. Doubt I would ever be able to repeat that even if I tried. After it exited there was a graze along his back too, hence why I think he was down in a sneak position. One less fawn, goose, & pheasant killer for this area. Haha. Happy as can be with my new caller.

I figured after your accident earlier in the year you hadn't had enough dry spells  :chuckle:

Too soon?

Congrats on a successful yote hunt there is nothing more fun
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Haha, no, not too soon. In my circle of friends and coworkers I have been roasted pretty good about that.
I am happy to laugh now about the jokes because I am here to do so
