Any one hunted Audad public land OTC in New Mexico
« on: January 14, 2020, 05:07:57 PM »
Looking for a starting point for an OTC unit in New Mexico for Audad. If any one has any info for me to get started I sure would appreciate it. My son is in the Air Force in Shreveport and we are going to meet in New Mexico for a week hunt in a month or so

Thanks in advance , Dave

I don't have any first hand experience but have heard from several people that the OTC tags are real tough hunting with few animals.  It looks like beautiful country though.

I have heard the same things

Tough country, hard to find, dont need water, few and far between, hard to spot, not during the rut " SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD TIME TO ME"

My son and I are researching the heck out of it. Going down the last week of Feb. Should get 6 days of hunting in. I'll send you some info when I get back. Good, bad or indifferent

Headed down the first week of March. Ended up with no intel at all for OTC public land. A week hunting with my son even if we dont get on them is better then a week working. 1/2 % chance to get one. "SO YOU SAY THERES A CHANCE"

Have you looked into White Sands?  There is also hunting allowed on the Macgregor Range, an hour North of El Paso, but I don’t know if there any aoudad there.

From my understanding the only hunting in Whitesands is by draw. Its too bad because the range on the West side looks really good.

Pretty sure McGregor is draw only also because its out of unit 34 public portion. I will double check though

Thanks

Friends of mine just got back from there a month ago. Both were successful with nice rams

Do you know if they were OTC public or on draw tags?
Do you know what unit they were in?

Following along. I didn’t even know what an aoudad was till I screwed up and read a few hunting magazines.  :chuckle: :chuckle: now  I really want to hunt them. I would like a do it yourself hunt on public also. I wish I had information for you anyways please post a follow up interested in how this one goes.
