So, what does next year look like....????
« on: April 17, 2020, 09:01:26 AM »
Having lived here long enough I finally went Razor Clamming for the first time this year, had a blast and BAM, just like that the season ends for this COVID Bug.  So my question for some of you old timers and experienced clam diggers, what effect will having lost over 3/4 of the season of razor clam digging do to next year?  Bigger clams?  Increased limits?  More people digging?  I believe the state says over 400,000 people dig razor clams every year, this year we hardly touched them, just a rookie wondering what this may do for next year.

Way bigger clams, more if they keep stocking on schedule.

Definitely larger clams and likely more digs.  I'm hoping they don't do what they did a couple years ago when they had it shut down for a month due to health reasons and then when the opened it back up it was open for nearly a month straight.  Strange the next year the clam population sucked and we barely had any digs.  Wonder how that happened

Yeah, I have my fingers crossed for at least one night/morning tide combo so we can hit two digs without having to stay two nights.

Dug those at Clam Gulch many years ago, am told they are now all but gone at that site from natural changes.  Anyone know for sure?

I bet when they do open another dig they will not only be bigger but they will have increased limits. A few years ago they had a one or two day dig with a 30 clam limit after it was closed or had bad conditions for awhile or something and they figured there were extra clams for harvest. . That was a special day
