Have any advice for a blacktail newbie. I've had success with muley's over the last couple years in Eastern Washington but now I want to get into hunting these ninjas of the forest

Used to be good in Sky but the last 10 or so years it has turned to krap. Its a lot better down lower in the valley around Goldbar in the clear cut areas.

I was born and raised in Sky and the deer population has went down hill. I only hunt blacktail around there if I haven't taken a high hunt buck or regular season muley. I would say the Reiter rd or Spada lake area. Those clear cuts near the Wallace Falls area hold some nice deer once you get behind the gated roads a ways.  :twocents:

I will definitely have to see if there's any gates near the Wallace falls area and check it out and see if there's any sign of deer in there. The only reason I thought of skykomish cuz I was on my way back from getting my dear that was processed and a huge chocolate-covered antlered black-tail was crossing highway to right in skykomish and I've been obsessing about him ever since

theres deer up there in Skykomish! Look around on the alder flats and the big timber up higher there’s also some big cuts up there. Also snoqualmie has some good area too on the south side of 90

For south of 90.. you mean right off rattle snake Rd on beginning of 18 or this gates off 18? I could always find the deer in an area I just never know where to park

Investigate where you saw that buck come from and heading to it might be a good area or look at what type of habitat it is and hike and bike around looking for similar areas

Take the Kellogg Lake road west end of Startup which will join with the Sultan Basin road. There are some gated roads off that which lead to prime blacktail and bear country.
