Alta Lake
« on: July 21, 2020, 08:26:29 PM »
Hello,

Going to take the boys over to Alta Lake for a few days of fishing next week. Staying at the State Park. Never been or fished there. Any advice to get the boys on some fish would be appreciated. I have a boat.

Thanks
-Slammer

How big of a boat?  Just camped up Chelan for 7 days and hit some hot trout holes

From the beach front go to the right corner there is a big rock there stay off that about 60 yds. Ive gotten into some really nice trout there. It has been a few years since I have been there though. Also the cove in the back where the horse ranch is has always produced in the past.

Good advice!

I will ask neighbors if they’ve fished Alta recently.  With that boat you could stay at 25 mile and fish Mitchell creek and I bet you’d fill a cooler with trout.  Extreme caution crossing the lake though: wind chop, ferry wake, and ski boats.  Early AM if it’s calm it’s easy.  Same for evening after the skiers are tucked in for the day.  Pateros is also open right now with a boat launch and awesome cinnamon rolls at the bakery.  I’m about 25 miles from Alta towards Carlton if you need a place to safely leave your boat to go explore somewhere higher up in the mountains for a night or two and don’t want to leave it at the state park.  Very safe parking 😁

Just be careful around Alta Lake this time of year......that place is the rattlesnake capital of the Methow.

Yes, my wife’s boss got bit at the golf course a few years ago. If you hit it off the fairway leave it.!!

Thanks for all the advise. We are actually staying at the state park for 3 nights so I won't be venturing out to any other lakes this trip.

I hate snakes. lol. With 3 little ones, we will have to be extra cautious. I am sure we will be down at the lake most of the day.

It's been a while since I fished it. We would go to the end of the lake from the launch and anchor up. I would use a leader about 3 feet long with a slip sinker. I would put a marshmellow with a single egg.  Good luck!

Thanks to all for any help/tips. We caught a couple Kokanee on Monday. It was hot over there (100+) on 2 of our 3 days so the bite was slow.

Boys had a great time reeling them in.
