I know it is not the same unit but it is close...

I have a Cowiche Early Bull Elk permit.
I have received 2 emails so far about being able to turn my permit back and get my points restored.
With DNR opening today I have decided to keep the permit.

Interesting.  I never received a call back and haven't received an email.  I'm referring to the Alkali unit.

Here it is.
Dear Special Permit Holders,

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife recognizes that current fire conditions have substantially impacted deer and elk hunters in many hunt areas.  As such, we are providing you the opportunity to return your special permit and have your preference points reinstated.  If you applied for your hunt on a group application, not everyone in the group must turn in their permit for us to restore your points.

Only include your permit, not your transport tag. You will need your transport tag if you choose to hunt during a general season or if you have other special permits for that species.

The option to your return your permit will restore your preference points for that hunt category but will not include a refund of your application or license fees.

If your season is scheduled to open before Sept. 26, then you have until Friday, Sept. 25 to return your permit. Your letter must be postmarked on or before that date.

If your season is scheduled to open between Sept. 26 and Oct. 10, then your letter must be postmarked no later than the day before your season is scheduled to open. For example, if your season opener is Oct. 3, then the postmark date must be no later than Oct. 2.

Please note that if you choose to turn in your permit, but then fire conditions improve, we cannot return the permit back to you.
Happiness is being in the woods!!!
