Speer Deep Curl
« on: September 18, 2020, 05:41:57 AM »
Any of you shooting them in your muzzleloaders? I picked up a few boxes awhile back and am thinking about trying them in my Knight Bighorn. Probably start out at 110 grains of 777 and see what happens. Been running Barnes Expander MZs. Great bullet but extremely hard to load no matter what Ive tried. Decent accuracy. Use to hear great things about the deep curl so thought why not.

Been using them for quite a few years. Fantastic performers.
It is foolish and wrong to mourn these men.  Rather, we should thank god that such men lived.  -General George S. Patton

I chose the 300 gr magnum also.  My bighorn was shooting over 1900 fps on the chrono.

Using regular or magnum Deep Curl?

Deep Curls/Gold Dots never were offered in a Mag caliber.  They are awesome bullet and far exceed the XTP's when it comes to 'Terminal Ballistics'. This picture shows an expanded bullet.  In the old days I often referred to them as 'poor mans' Nosler Partitions.

This pic shows the performance of the Deep Curl/Gold Dot to the XTP

Don't this all wrong the XTP or XTP does not always do this - they just have the ability to do this a ML velocities.
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

SabotLoader was correct.  My bullets were Hornaday XTP Magnum (not the Speer Deep Curl)
