« on: April 20, 2021, 09:18:29 AM »
oops I am high bidder on a ss MK 85 / 54 cal I looked at other 50cals and assumed this was as well, well its a 54 I have only had one 54 inline and that was a TC system one I liked it so I am looking for reassurance that it's going to be okay has the tech increased for 54s as far as Sabots and bullets its going to be for hunting mainly and some fun range time but not a great deal do people still use 54 inlines oh by the way there is still 2 1/2 days left on the auction

I still shoot a 54 cal. T/C because it was a special gift to me.

My 3 sons shoot 50 cal T/C's because of course the market went that way.

We all shoot the same bullet:  400 grain Harvester hard cast lead.  They are brutal on elk.

You can order them with 50 or 54. Cal sabots so that makes it pretty easy.

IDK.

You need to know the real diameter of your particular bullet and then buy sabots that take that diameter bullet.

MMP Sabots sell two different 54 cal sabots. Purple are for .499-.500 bullet. The red ones are for .452 bullets. I tried them with home cast 50 cal lead bullets designed for the 500 S&W. They shot alright but I think they were to long. I would suggest you keep the bullet weight around 300 grains and you should get good results. I will look, I might have a partial bag of the purple ones left over...no longer have a 54 in line.

Sorry to get your hopes up, I looked all over and I cant find the sabots. I must have gotten rid of them.  Try the MMP website.
