Now im really looking forward to it...

I want to Try the next mile meals as they seem a bit on the healthier side, but at $14 each they're steep.

Thats one ive never heard of. Honestly the nutrition to me is second to taste. Guys complain about MH not being healthy enough but for me and my activity level, I don't care if it has too much sodium, or preservatives or whatever. Its just calories plain and simple. Calories in and calories out. Thats all that matters  :twocents:

As MH inches up their pricing i buy less. The Blanchards have been trying a bunch lately to see what my daughter is going to like as she is backpacking into idaho with me this season for her first big kid hunt. Here in Yakima you can buy a MH for $9-10 or peak refuel for $11. The peaks are so much better in taste and quality than MH. If I could still buy MH for 6 or 7 bucks I'd not even be entertaining other more expensive brands. Peak refuels have higher nutritional value and use half the water as well which is big in the back country. I still dehydrate a ton of my own meals and there are MH flavors that ill never leave home without but man the bar has definitely moved up a few notches over the years.
Yeah, I try to just buy a bunch when they are on sale. Amazon has decent prices sometimes.

As someone that has never had a freeze dried meal and going to start backpacking this year this deal seems like a great way to try a few different flavors for cheap. Thanks for posting.

 :yeah:

I prefer Peak or Heather's Choice.
I'm a high energy guy and I burn a ton of calories just standing still, so I have to eat a lot just to stay moving in the backcountry.
MH just doesn't do it for me anymore.  (except chili/mac, I'll eat that all day long)

Peak tastes better to me and isn't much more in Cost.  It can be hard to find my favorites close to season, so I buy year round to spread cost, and get what I prefer.

Heather's Choice has a couple great options when available, and it's the only commercial FD food my Hippy wife will eat.  Also tough to get favorites.
She prefers homemade, which is decent and getting better.

Hopefully we'll be Homemade only within a year or two. Still dialing some things in.

The cheese in the lasagna is like actual concrete on your spoon. Its good but that cheese will take a good amount of teeth scraping to get off. I recommend packing a spork from a fast food place to eat that particular meal :chuckle:

:yeah: That is very good advice!

Its a Keto freeze dried meals so its not all carbs. Plus the meal options actually sound good.

As someone who is on the bigger side (but coming down) I dont need a lot of calories to maintain weight. Eating 1200 calories a day i can be plenty full and thats with a moderate workout in there.

That being said backpacking/hunting is vacation and calories don't count on vacation.

You're probably getting dangerously close to justifying your own freeze dryer with the quantity of fd meals your buying.

If I had a place to put the thing id 100% buy one. Jonathan_S has one and he makes some killer meals! I do a lot of dehydrated stuff but its such a labor of love to get it just right. Ive found myself going back to freeze dried more and more. Last year all I made myself was spaghetti and my sweet and spicy venison barbacoa tacos.

Is there a recipe sweet and spicy venison Barbados tacos because they sound amazing?

I tried a bunch of barbacoa recipes and we liked this one the best. Plate it full on street taco style with home made tortillas, cilantro and a splash of lime. Eat till you're sick

Ha, you're spot on with every comment in this thread. Surprised you haven't mentioned how Peak Chicken Pesto Pasta isn't worth a damn and how the HC Smoked Sockeye Chowder is the next best thing to a 200" muley :chuckle: :chuckle:
