High buck success? Anyone?
« on: September 19, 2021, 09:23:09 AM »
Swear I only heard one maybe 2 shots when generally I hear 10+. I only saw one almost shooter 4 yo w funky points. Saw a dozen 1.5-2.5 legal 2s n 3s but guessing the early snow last year is lead to an early migration and therefore a high harvest. Lots of does though.

Again saw no one in my area but mature deer were few n far between. We usually find 2-3 target bucks a year.

Saw a lot of new camo on folks trail hunting on the way out. They all looked great. Kiddos to first light it would appear your market share is strong. Lol

Hope there is some success out there and our area is the exception. I am just an admirer of mature deer. Weather on my wall or in my glass.

Buddy got one, I turned down the invitation to go with but I believe he alluded to a second member of the group getting another.

Myself and and 3 other guys hiked up tatoosh buttes trail to white lake. Lots of down trees and tons of rain. Scared and saw over 40 deer on Thursday to include 4 bucks at 100 yards. I was to busy looking at them instead of shooting  :bash: . One was a real nice 4x4 that I keep replaying it my head him looking at me over his shoulder then running off. But after hiking out 23 miles for 13 hours and getting to slate pass at 1:30am im okay with continuing to hunt with the multi season tag

I shot a small 5x3 in the Pasayten Saturday evening. Not very many people out with the weather being temperamental.

And now next year instead of 40 deer you'll have 40 hunters in your spot. First rule of the high hunt... don't talk about it. 2nd rule, if you DO talk about it, don't post your spot on a forum lmao

Maybe it was a decoy spot? A lot of sun in that picture...  :chuckle:

Oh I’m not worried I won’t be heading up there again. I have a closer spot that has been just as good or better. Just really wanted to hike way back in there once. Beautiful area and found some deer so I don’t mind sharing where it was.

Wednesday afternoon and Thursday were actually pretty nice out. Tuesday and Friday sucked weather wise. We’ve actually done really well hunting in the rain though in the past.

23 miles is a long way to haul out a buck if You get one. Trail all the way or not. The farther in you are doesn't guarantee success or that you will see more animals. Have known guys that have taken very nice animals a short distance in but you probably know that. Scouting an area is probably the number one priority. But it's all about the experience.
