Goose Prairie Archery elk
« on: June 26, 2022, 03:21:52 PM »
I have been debating posting this but nothing ventured nothing gained. I Drew quality Archery elk permit for Goose Prairie and have never hunted there. Any advice would be appreciated. I just got back from a weekend scouting trip and there are a lot of people everywhere. Hope I didn't waste all of my points.....PM me if you have any advice, Thanks.

Lots of campers in the summer, but plenty of elk.

I'd say you definitely did not waste your points.

You can start by scouting it on Google earth.

You didn’t waste your points. That tag is a great one. Had it a couple years ago.

The amount of people around substantially dies down after Labor Day weekend. Get off the roads and trails and you won’t see anyone in the summer. Don’t beat yourself up about drawing IMO the second best elk unit in Yakima county.

With a bit of effort you should have a phenomenal hunt. Tag numbers have been carved down to nothing, you’ll have the place dang near to yourself. Don’t let the summer rec traffic get you down. I would be ecstatic and hunting my guts out if I were you  :twocents:

A thread where I posted pictures of a trail camera I had going for a while. Get a little west of this migration route on the east side of the Nelson range and should be lights out. The wet spring should have helped rejuvenate some grasses and forbs in areas where the fire was unlike when you go into the Nile unit and see an absolute war zone in the Nile creek and glass creek drainages.

Pretty much what I think I told your buddy in Colville.  Should be an epic hunt, 5 hunters in two pretty big units during the peak of the rut.  Granted a lot of both units burned in the Schneider Springs fire last summer but with the wet spring we have had there should be lots of forage.  Like any fire, some areas ended looking like the moon and other areas are still great habitat.  I would bet that most of the people that were everywhere this last weekend were mushroom pickers at the end of the crop.  Guarantee you didn't waste your points.

If your not familiar with the area at all I wouldn’t wouldn’t waste my time. Lots of people to ruin your hunt. Might as well turn it back in. I love threads like this! :dunno:

Great tag in units with some fantastic bulls. Had the tag about 5 years ago. Is it still during the regular season? If so, there will be plenty of people all over the place. Without OTC cow tags, may be two less people.

Love these posts, every year there’s a few good ones. If you are worried about wasting points, why apply for a unit you’ve never hunted? The fact that you are worried about wasting your points says a lot. Dream tag for a lot of guys. I’d wager the tag was wasted on you, not the other way around.
