I got out of the truck, let my dog out, started to grab my .22 and she instantly flushed 3 ruffs. I managed to get one of them but that was all for the day.

Today the order is gun then dog.

Seen a lot of grouse the last few weeks. Opted to take my son Westside youth pheasant release site.  It was a good call.  Alot of action.

Saw a bunch in the alpine this weekend. Got one yesterday that I cooked up to add to my pesto pasta freeze-dried. Need to pack some oil and SPG in the future, just kinda braised it in the freeze-dried pesto sauce.

Was planning on trying to get a limit on the hike out, got into 3 pretty quick but couldn't hit one to save my life. Out of ammo, bumped another 2-3 on the way down. I blame not having any coffee this morning because my cup was dirty from cooking.

Got 5 last weekend in Idaho, camping and checking cams. Cooked down some huckleberries and made a compote to serve over some Grouse bites

Popped with a pistol about 30 minutes into the season opener!
Gun a Ruger MKIV, .22 caliber, CCI slightly modified 40-grain RNL. One shot. This was one of about eight birds I simply stumbled into as I was heading to a spot I planned to hunt. How's that for dumb luck?  Looks like a good hatch.  (See related report in thread 'Friday It Was..." this sectiion.
