Haley’s progress
« on: November 24, 2023, 11:39:32 AM »
Well, Haley is almost two, now. We just finished up her first real duck season.

Haley made another awesome retrieve. A pair of ducks was flying over so I picked one out & shot at it. The recoil knocked me over so I didn’t see what happened because I was on my back in the corn stubble looking at the sky. We looked all over where the duck would have landed if I hit it & it wasn’t there, so I guess I missed. About 45 minutes later I let Haley out of her blind to burn some energy. I wasn’t paying attention to her & thought she was running around the field. But she wasn’t, she was hunting. I saw her about 100 yards down the field with her head in a pile of corn stubble left by the combine. Then turned & ran to me on a rope as fast as she could, with that duck in her mouth. A couple weeks ago, she made a 40+ yard double retrieve on a big lake, with two ducks she didn’t see hit the water.  In @ 3 years, I think she’ll be something to behold if I keep getting her out & on birds.

I agree so much with getting dogs out as often as possible. No amount of textbook training can amount to real time scenarios. Cannot count how many times I've heard sad stories of pups staying home cuz they weren't ready. Don't be surprised if your dog exceeds all expectations earlier and continues into old age. Enjoy their loving spirit

Thanks everyone! She’s really fun to hunt with. This year I got her the Momarsh Invisilab blind. I’m so glad I did. It’s expensive, but worth every penny
