"Traditional" archery season
« on: June 09, 2009, 11:07:01 PM »
Ok I'm some what new to the state but does anyone know why Modern season is during the peak of the Blacktail rut? The seasons should be structured accordingly;

Early archery Sept. 1-30.
Late archery Oct. 15-31.
Traditional Archery Season Nov.1-14 (recurve and longbow only)
Early modern Oct. 5-12.
Late modern Nov. 24-Dec. 8.

...smoke pole season would be mixed in there somewhere as well. Any thoughts?

I am a Trad Archer and would love it, but lets be realistic there is way too much arguing and separation amongst the hunting community as it is, I think they should just sell us our tags and have separate units for weapons and rotate as population (game) warrants. so we could all hunt with what we choose to hunt with and have a reasonable amount of time in the woods.

I could handle a december modern blacktail hunt, that would be a slam dunk. I hunted muzzleloader last year and had many bucks just outside my comfortable range with iron sights in early december.
