life change: from Washington to Oregon
« on: December 17, 2023, 04:53:07 PM »
Well, HuntWA friends, I took a job in Oregon.  Still teaching forestry, still working at a land grant university.  And definitely still crazy about hunting, of course.

Any of you on here that are Beaver Staters, let me know- I'd love to meet up for a beer.

I will miss the Evergreen State, but I'm happy to still be in the Pacific Northwest.  I guess I'm going to have to dust off (wipe the mud off?) my blacktail hunting skills, and maybe run around in the thick stuff for Roosevelt elk.  We'll see where the adventures take me.

Best of luck in your future adventures!!

I think they’ve got about 3 times the public land per capita that WA does so that should be a bonus

I moved back to Wa from Oregon in 2020 and could kick myself for leaving. The politics sucked but the hunting was the best I have ever had. Where are you moving to? I could give you some pointers.
I hunt therefore I am.

He Said another Land Grant School, so that would be OSU...Corvallis.   Keeping it in the family of Pac2 schools.

The coast is thick with elk - bow hunt and you could get an opportunity every year.
Taxes are horrible tho - the 9.9% state tax is bad enough but they also nearly eliminate the standard deduction and do elimate the 20% biz deduction with regards to figuring state income.

But the good news is its only a short drive for you to watch the duck games.  :-)

I've been in Pendleton a little over 2-weeks and to say I'm excited for fall already is an understatement. Spring should be fun too.

I'm an Oregonian. Grew up in Republic WA, moved to LA Grande OR after college. If their was more opportunity in Republic that would be my first choice but NE Oregon is pretty good too!

I read that OR has twice as many elk as WA.
