moose sheds
« on: April 19, 2007, 07:43:05 AM »
turkey hunting was kind of slow so....
we went looking, well kind of, and this is what we came up with. i think we did ok.
none of us really honestly know much about moose sheds so if anyone can tell us if these are big-little-average-whatever i'd like to know. if you measure from the base of that first one to the tip of the #2 brow tine...it's 21" as  a reference. i guess the dropper is about 3" long. the other big one is significantly heavier in the palm then the one in the atl pic.

my first ATL:

#2 ATL:

i think this one's pretty unique...

all 4 of our finds...

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

Well, they are not monsters, but I would be doing backflips over them and that isn't exactly phyically possible.  The uniqueness of the one is awesome.  Moose really don't tend to be that non-typical.  The other big fellow is very nice.  Shiras tend to have long points and not much web or palmation.  When you find one that has short points and lots of palmation, you have a winner.  You should definately take note of where you found him and go back there this fall when you draw that tag.  As previously mentioned, I'm insanely jealous.  I have today and tomorrow off, you make me want to let my birds suffer, and my chores to sit, and for me to drive to North Idaho to hit the slopes.  I love MOOSE sheds.
