Recommendation for cleaning up an elk rack
« on: July 15, 2024, 02:17:09 PM »
I have an old (1950s) elk rack from my grandpa that is simply attached to the skull cap. It's currently hanging above our entryway via some wire and my wife hates how it looks and wants something more professional. I am looking for input and recommendations, along with referrals if you know of anyone that does quality work with an eye for aesthetics. She doesn't mind the skullcap but she wants it mounted to some sort of nice wood so that we don't have to use this ugly wire anymore.

I've attached the elk rack that the wife does NOT like, as well as a deer rack that my wife DOES like, both are from my grandpa so I claim zero credit for either of them.

Thank you!

I did this for my Dad with his first bull. I'm not volunteering, just offering some ideas. I've made numerous plaques to hang European mounts on as well. They're pretty easy to put together.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

A cheap route is to order a shield plaque off amazon and some pre soaked stain wipes. Screw the skull plate on afterwards. It's like $20ish

Otherwise I'd go to whatever taxidermist is the closest.
