« on: June 22, 2009, 03:12:35 PM »
i bought a brute force 650 and it wont idle unless the choke is on, and when you rev it it pops and backfires on decelleration, but runs really good with the choke on, i think i am going to take the carbs apart and clean them. and get new gas for it. does anyone have any pointers for me? or is anyone farmialiar with these carbs?

won't idle unless choke is on, usually means geld up gas in the ole' carb. take the carb apart and clean it up.

When you're fiddling/learning those carbs, install drain tubes and petcock valves to drain the float bowls for winter storage. 10:1 one or both carbs have stuck floats.  I agree that cleaning is the first step, but you might also be replacing the needle seats or the floats.

How do you like it so far? I am going to pick mine up tomorrow. I bought an 05 with 50 hours/300 miles. Sounds like a fun one.

You'll have to let me know how the new tires work out and what brand/size they are. I'd like a little better traction on mine.

Keep me posted. I will be in the marked for new shoes for mine soon. The ones on it are probably just fine but I am always needing to make improvements.

The new tires are killer!!! hauled out some tree stands and feeders and stuff last weekend. they are a little smaller than the specs. the 25 inch tires are only 24 inches tall mounted. if i knew that i would have bought the 26 inchers. but they get real good traction and dont ride too bad on the packed/hard surface. they look real mean though!!! also if you get these, no more riding in the lawn... they tear it up even goin slow!!!! :bash:
