A little excitement today
« on: March 14, 2025, 06:56:15 PM »
Pictured are two bobcats I caught today. The one on the right was where the excitement was. As I was walking down an old logging road to check the cage, I heard some growling and some commotion. I never saw anything but when I got to the trap it was pulled out of place and cougar tracks about. I had set the trap alongside of a windfall, so the back was against the uproot part of the windfall. The trunk of the windfall was a little higher than the trap was tall. A fir tree was on the other side of the trap. Kind of a nice hole that fit the trap. I had wired the trap to a small limb on the fir tree.
Trap was pulled over the windfall, broke the limb the trap was tied to, and the trap was standing on end. Like I say cougar tracks in the dirt from the uproot. Bobcat was not happy, but I got there before he suffered any damage.

One other thing and it is not easy to see but the cat has white toes on its back feet. Not sure I ever saw that before.

Wow, that would have been incredible to actually see.

Looks like a nice pair of cats.

Chunky because he is full of beaver meat.

A word on the value of these cats. Put them up real nice, Nevada stretch and get them real clean and fluffy, haul them to ID. They are probably worth maybe $30. Skin them with the feet on them and do the ears and head for taxidermy, $80.

That recent fur report from Idaho bobcats were like $500+ or did I read that wrong?   Too late in season I guess?

There is a world of difference between them pale bellied cats and the casty bellied cats you get from the coast. You can't make something like this out of a coastal cat.

that last pic would have been better with the smaller cats.😉
