Desert unit 290 October buck hunt
« on: August 22, 2025, 10:35:45 PM »
My sister had it last year and was successful. My wife has it this year and I want it to be just as successful. I know the area and I know good spots to go. Just curious if people see a lot of the bigger bucks from a boat? I always hear of the duck hunters coming across them. Just trying to think of more ways to access harder to get to spots. 57 days and counting  :IBCOOL:

Following. I've never drawn the tag,  but i spend a lot of time in the dunes back there.  Always said I woukd canoe in and camp off Winchester if I ever drew it,  but most guys seem to hunt the edge of the ag lands from the main roads, I think.

What a fun hunt that we will never forget! My wife Beverly was selected for a quality mule deer hunt here in Washington state. Friday night we arrived in town and my sister Jesica came over and hunted opening day with us. Beverly was having issues and not feeling well, crohns can absolutely deplete a persons activity level. We saw lots of deer, including a goofy 3x1 that Jesica spotted. Neat buck, but wasn’t a day 1 shooter. Jesica had to leave Saturday evening and so that left just Beverly and I to hunt the rest of the hunt. This morning we ended up seeing 5 does and 1 dinky 2 pt. We finished the morning hunt, went and did our Normal and then headed out for the evening hunt at 3:00 pm. Arriving to our new spot we hiked out to a sand dune that I wanted to sit at for the evening. We saw 5 does off to our right 800 yards away and I was keeping a close eye on them seeing if maybe a buck would come up from behind. While watching them all of a sudden I hear Beverly say, there’s a buck! Big buck! I quickly get on it with the spotting scope, get the range with the rangefinder, dial the scope and tell her I’m good to go. One perfect shot at 369 yards and the buck was down! We were able to get over to it, take our photos and have it packed up and back to the truck before dark. Such a special hunt and quality memories that we will have for ever! We were blessed!

Sounds like a good hunt.  Congrats!

Ps, the thread title gives away the unit more so than terrain and animal…

The terrain and the thread title are both a little telling  :chuckle: congrats to your wife, great buck! Looks like he has some mass to go along with that width

It’s her stud buck. A lot will have different opinions. She made the best of it and found her buck.
