Illustration: Skinning for a bear rug
« on: November 10, 2025, 12:48:51 PM »
This is a visual illustration of how I skin for a bear rug prior to getting it to a taxidermist. Remove the head at the base of the skull at the atlas joint. Leave the head and paws for the taxidermist if you’re not experienced. Remove all large chunks of meat and allow it to cool. Fold flesh to flesh, hair side out and roll it up before placing it in a cooler (temporarily) and asap, a freezer until you can get it to your taxidermist.
