Last day of season jumped 2 bucks,over volcanic ridge,no tracks,asked myself if I was a buck where would I bail? One Barrel sage pocket 1/4 mile out,walked up to it,put rifle to shoulder took one step in and intentionally snapped a sage trunk,up he came out of bed,his eyes said Oh SH**!! Click off safety,Goodnight.Nice 4 pt. MULEY. 12-15FT.

9 feet with my marlin 44mag lever action. Was about the coolest shot ever. It went straight down. Broke all 4 legs when it collaspe on them. That blacky tail was good eats too.  :)
Hunting and Fishing is not what I do. But who I am...

It was my second year of deer hunting, opening day of doe season in Pennsylvania. I heard my Dad shoot down in the swamp, and then a few deer came up in the hemlocks where I was at. The lead doe came trotting by at 30 yards and I nailed her with Grandpas 30-06. I filled my Bonus doe tag the next day! Sure are warm memories!
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

14 years old, sitting on a old growth white pine stump on the end of a spruce-cedar swamp & hardwood line during a Yooperland snow storm in Baraga County back in 1965. Young spike heading into the swamp to wait out the storm

When I was 13 my dad set me up next to a tree near a game trail.  My dad and uncle went back to the truck to drive to the end of the woodlot.  As soon as they drove away 3 whitetail does ran down the trail right towards me.  Stopping less then 2 yards from me on my left and started feeding.  I put the front sight post of my 30-30 right behind the shoulder of the biggest doe and squeezed the trigger.  She dropped like a rock.  My dad couldn't believe it.  I remember him asking me if I could smell her breath.  Good memories.

Several years ago, on opening morning, I had some bad food the night before and I had to drop the drawers in a hurry.
I looked uphill from me while in the squatting position and along walked this 3x4 mulie. No idea what the critter was thinking, but
he walked about 20 feet from me. Not unlike those tales of hunters putting their rifles against a tree and walking some paces,
I had my rifle on the ground in front of me. Picked it up, pointed it and pulled the trigger.
Gathering is easy. Hunting is a challenge.

First Muzzle loader Deer fork horn mule deer taken at 4 yards, walked up behind me as i was sittin on a stump.
