Parker Legend XP
« on: February 08, 2010, 04:47:26 PM »
I stopped off at Blacksheep to get some ammo and my nephew wanted to look at bows. While I was there I was looking at a Parker Legend XP bow with that goes 70# RH, 29" draw, which included a module to adjust draw lengths. I'm a 30" draw. The bow was a 2009 and selling for $239.00. He mention that this is normally a runs around $549.00. He also said that he could adjust the cam with a module and the bow would fit me. Based on the draw length and using a carbon express arrow wieghing aorung 350 grains (I think 6570?) he said the bow would shoot 300 ft per second. Not the fastest bow but the price was very nice..

Any thoughts if this bow is worth the price. What do you guys think of Parker bows? I'm looking for a new bow that will not break the bank. I currently have a Bowtech Patriot which I bought in 2002.

6 years ago I bought a Parker Hunter Mag.  For me it was a really good first bow.  It didn't break the bank and it was a nice shooter.  If it feels good to shoot then get it, otherwise I'd shoot some other bows to see what really fits your needs.

At 70 lbs. and a 30" draw length with an arrow weighing just over 6 grs/ lb. of draw weight (WA state min. weight) my program is telling me that you can expect around 267 fps and 67 ft-lbs of Kenetic energy. Sounds like alot of bow for the money. This is definitely the time of year to buy a new bow if your not after the newest toys out there. Everyone is dumping their 2009 inventory to bring in the 2010 models.

You sometimes get what you pay for when it comes to bows.  Will it kill an elk, without question.  Would you noticed the difference between it and some of the other "top" names bows, without questions.  A good friend has a Parker bow, relatively newer model.  I cant put two arrows within 5 inches of eather other a 40 yards with that thing.  Maybe I'm just too used to mine....

Not 100% sure what you mean when you say optimum range for KE. But I have heard that the suggested minimum KE for whitetail size game is 40/45 ft-lbs. and for elk size game 50/55 ft/lbs ke (I think?) So for elk your KE would be good out to 45 yards (54 ft/lbs @ 45 yards) and a bit further for deer (51 ft-lbs @ 60 yards)

Crunchy, likely this bow was poorly tuned or atleast not tuned to you shooting style. Parker bows (properly tuned) will shoot just as precisely as the top end bows. Granted they may take a little more work to get a good tune.

I love my parker bow. It is funny when I was at the range a couple guys who were shooting Matthews and bow tech  asked me what I was shooting cause it was so quiet. I told them a parker and they were blown away. I shoot a hunter mag also. It is not the newest bow but it works well. I am not a have to have the nicest , newest thing guy so I will stick with it awhile. Shoot I know guys who still shoot dinasours and they are still killing things.
If i were you stick with what you like and not what someone tells you to shoot. Don't be one of these guys who gets a new bow every year.. Waste of money
If its brown knock it down
