I am only interested in where they are from because if memory is correct there was a crew from Onalaska that was busted some years back. Was wondering if they are the same guys. The name sounded familiar.

Thanks, I remember my mom telling me about some guys down the road from her that got busted years ago for taking trophy's and for some reason the name Sam made me recall her story.

IIRC they were from Wilkeson/Burnett, but their "known associates" were all over Pierce & Lewis County.  At the time the sportsmen from around the area were furious at what these guys were getting away with.  There was a lot of rumor that they had connections inside the Department of Fish & Game.  There was also a lot of speculation that the Pierce County Sheriff was providing them protection.  Pierce County was basically a branch office of the mob back in those days.

Yep Carbonado, Wilkeson area ...  No secret they took a lot of animals and always seemed to get off on a technicality 
Stop in the Burnett store sometime, if there is still a huge bull on the wall try asking the owner about it ...  he doesn't much want to talk about it and will more than likely clam up and not look ya in the eye after that

If I remember correctly that was the bull that got him in trouble, I think it was Terry Hoffer that noticed the flowers in the picture and knew they only grew at a certain elevation.  He even recognized the area and went up and found the spot where the bull was taken, in the park.  Man this brings up a few memories of my past, years ago.

Wow the game agent was Terry Hoffer. Long time ago. Hoffer was killed by a hunter with a loaded firearm in his vehicle.  Sorry Sorry No Thread Jack intended.

Terry may have been the one and definitely helped work the case but I thought it was Bruce Richards that studied the flowers, I know when I spoke to him he was the one that hiked all over Mt Rainier National park until he found the stump that was in the background in the pic! From there you could also see some of the surrounding peaks in the background and of coarse well inside the boundaries of the park.  ... I've seen both Argos kill shot and Bruce's pics side by side at one point in the past just can't remember if it was in the paper after the conviction or what???

They should be out there online somewhere.  I had some old Washington Fishing & Hunting News at my moms house, but when I looked at them the other day they were all dry rotted.  I bet the WDFW has some archived.  Like I and others have said, this was a big deal around here.  For years leading up that incident rumors had been circulating regarding what these jerks had been up to.
