What camouflage pattern for the East Side/Yakima?
« on: March 04, 2010, 12:24:48 PM »
Probably a dumb question but I have never been to Washington before. So, while everything is on clearance here in Texas is there a preferred or best pattern for Washington? I will be on the East Side/Yakima. Some people tells me it matters, some say anything works. I appreciate all responses.

I have Kings desert camo and Sitka OPTIFADE camo. I like both.

Blue jeans and a plaid shirt.  :)

Anything sage or desert works.

Depending on what area you are hunting, in  Eastern Washington I like open country patterns with grays and browns because it is pretty arid. but I do end up in reprod areas and heavy timber.
I wear lighter shades of brown and gray pants with Wayne Carlton "Camo West, Vanish" that I washed the heck out of to tone down the green so it isnt so dark.
It helps me dissapear in the reprod.
As long as it is in the lighter shades you shouldn't stand out as a big dark green blob.......

Bandana and a chopped top low rider.. :chuckle:

I have bowhunted the area for 7 years for both deer & elk. I have also worn all different camo patterns ( Not every one available ) and to tell you the truth I have never had an animal see me when I wasn't moving in any of them. I don't think there is much difference, stay with a broad pattern and tailor it to what hunting style you will most be doing.  Mike

Camo is break-up in my opinion.  For that country I would go with Mossyoak "Brush" or Cabelas "Open Country".  Also, many of the waterfowl camo patterns blend in well.

Of course movement is the worst giveaway, but I find that camo reduces detection with less contrast. I have had great success with Brush camo & Duck Blind camo. Here are some pics of camo in color and sepia which is close to some animal vision. The Brush does a good job of blending with great versatility. No comparisons with Duck Blind but it is an equal favorite.

Thanks for all the responses, especially you Sako223 for all the pics. I have a better idea of what to look for now. Have any of you used the MossyOak Treestand camo?

I have.   The white gnarly one works pretty decent in the sage.  In fact it probably resembles some of this 6-8 foot sage better than it represents what they made it for.

i use realtree max-1 and mossy oak open country, but i would venture a guess that the best camo for around yakima would be a sombrero and a saddle blanket  :chuckle:
