Question:
Can you fit any lens on any camera SLR?  I have the Cannon Rebel and I am wondering if I can put a Nikon 50 mm f/1.8D AF Lens on it?? :dunno:

That sounds awesome... I"ll order that sucker... when we order the cam.

Just dont expect low light miracles from it. It shoots much better at 2.8 or so. For low light a flash or two is a better option.

IMO, the lower stops actually allow me to shoot a little faster of exposure in lower light, HOWEVER, I agree with you about using it at 2.8 for general shooting; it can sometimes be a little bit of a pain to get a perfect focus when your depth of field is only a few inches wide when set to f/1.8...that and all lower end plastic lenses tend to hunt a little and are often off when using auto focus. Regardless of all that, these are minor technicalities to learn for what that darn little piece of plastic can do. Here's an example of the great DOF.

Here is an example of a low light shot. This was in total darkness shot with a led pen through a stoffen bounced off a small mirror.
Not the sharpest 1.8@1/25 IIRC.

OK, I looked.... the "body only" has everything the "lens kit" has, except for the lens.. So, for about $130 I can get this
EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens.....  Now... I already know I am going to be buying the Nifty Fifty....

What is a BETTER, affordable (under $400??) lens for everyday shooting/family/sports/etc.... Than this "kit" lens?

Thanks MUCH!

And hey...with 1.6 crop... I guess the kit lens is effectively 28-88? So to get a true wide angle, I have to drop way down?

The kit lens is a ok lens for the bucks, the IS version is much better than past versions. You will want a zoom lens, having just a 50mm prime wouldnt be much fun. Your right about the crop factor but dont stress over it, just learn to shoot. If you could afford it in IMO a 17-40F4L would be a better choice than the kit lens. Check with B&H and see if they can work out a deal. You will get everthing you need to start off, with the body except for maybe a SD card but they are cheap.

This is what I'd like... to make the wife happy....

But the $1200 price tag doesn't work....

This is what I'd like... to make me happy! :IBCOOL:

But the 7G's again interfere with reality....

I bought a sigma 28-205  3.8-5.6 UC-III for my Elan about 6 or 7 years ago.... would this lens work in the T1i? Would it be Crap compared to the kit lens??

I'm pretty sure the Elan was an ef body. All my lenses except the EFS work fine on my old 1V body.
Not sure about that sigma but I'd give it a shot and see how you like it before jumping into high dollar canons. The 16-35 is sweet I rented one for a weekend. To much money for a zoom lens unless you shoot  alot of weddings or something like that.

Can't go wrong with Canon's 28-135 IS USM. nextag.com just showed them for $250.00.

The only thing I see about that 28 is that its not super wide.... but after looking around a bit, that does sound like a decent lens for the money. Xcept I only saw it for like $389... $250 sounds like it would be a bargain!
