Late Archery Season Blacktails
« on: September 20, 2010, 12:17:14 AM »
I have always gotten my deer in the early season but due to work and such this year I am going to have to wait until the late season to hunt.  I was wondering, in your guys experience how do blacktails react to cold weather and snow and just it being later in the season in general.  I know my hunting area well so if you guys say that they like to hole up in deep cover or what ever I should be able to find them I just want some general advice on how blacktails act in the late season.

My experience is that it is much easier stalking and lesss food so the animals will be on the move more during hunting hours.  Big timber when its raining hard, clearcuts in alight mist.  Have had trouble in snow though don't know why?

Might catch the tail end of the rut at the start of the late season, that keeps the bucks on the move.

Most of the deer I've gotten have been blacktails in the month of December.  I hunt river bottoms and farm land mostly.  Seems like the hardest part for me is finding land to hunt.

the deer are easier but unfortunately they are rutted out pretty good and their meat isn't as tender and tasty.but still better then beef  ;)
