658, 660??? access areas needed
« on: October 12, 2010, 01:06:50 PM »
i got lost last winter driving home from the chehalis and took a 25+ mile detour down highway 6  :chuckle:, needless to say i seen tons of elk. 5 different herds of elk and alot of deer. but it was 3am and i couldnt really see anything as far as access goes. i couldnt teel if i was going past private of state land.

can anyone give me a general area that i could start along highway 6?

p.s. i didnt get any farther then the 660/672 boundry so i know i was along units 658/660

thanks in advance

i can't scout this area, due to very poor gas mileage. so im trying to make the trip once and stay the whole season.

Highway 6 or Highway 101 ???   It really DOES sound like you were lost!

i was fishing around cosmopolis and missed the turn from 101 to 107 and just kept on going south on highway 101  :chuckle:

There is a lot of access along that stretch of highway. It's mostly Weyerhaeuser. I don't know about whether gates will be open or not. But there are lots of roads and lots of gates. You could try calling the Weyerhaeuser access hotline and listening to the message.

i wasnt sure which timber company owned that area. i knew some of it had to be timber company land, or state land. im just having a hard time trying to figure it all out.

thanks again

Most of that area is owned by Weyerhaeuser with lots of access, gated and non gated. I must warn you though, there is no deer or elk up there, nope, non-whatsoever. Dont waist your time, oh and if you see a big ole Black F150 with a F150 home made trailer up near the Artic camp grounds during elk season, that isnt me, nope, wont be there.  :chuckle:

Have to agree with the posts above.  There are no deer or elk in either of those units.  However, if you choose not to listen to the great advise posted by those that don't want you to waste your valuable hunting time then you may want to drop by the Dennis company in Montesano, Aberdeen, or Raymond and pick up a Weyerhaeuser map.  There is a ton of access.
Oh, and if you happen to see a green jeep, I am not hunting deer or elk.  Just looking for chanterelles and avoiding chores.
