New wheels for the Clumbers, with photos - 2011 Jeep JK
« on: January 01, 2011, 10:13:41 PM »
This is my first EVER new car.  It had a whopping 12 miles on it about a fortnight ago when it became mine.  TWELVE!  For that matter, at almost 43, it is only my 4th car so you can rest assured I will drive the heck out of it!  Still kept my Gpa's '95 Ranger, much to the annoyance of the Jeep dealer.

That's our Ramona in the driver's seat.  I have been told it looks like we captured a Yeti and trained it to drive... but no, Ramona just needs a haircut.   :chuckle:

Is a 2011 Wrangler unlimited sport, so for few days it was a car FROM THE FUTURE! THE FUUUUTUUURRRE!  It looks black in the photos, but is actually a very very dark green with black top and fenders/bumpers.

Two 300 crates fit fine in the back - we wouldn't even talk with any dealers until we had confirmed that. (Yes Clumbers are bigger than a 300 size crate for anything except traveling.  Their real crates are 400 or larger)

Has the hard top and a sort of half-top that can be removed just over the front seats, so we can go "topless" in a few different ways,  though we won't be playing with those for some months  (shivers and puts on another sweatshirt)

Is a 70th anniversary edition since the Willys first rolled into the world in 1941.  That alone is awesome IMHO.

We need to get some running boards or bars as the dogs can't jump into it right now, and it is a bit of a climb for 5'3" me too.  Is absolutely the best vehicle I have ever owned or lived with, I cannot recommend it enough. As you can see, we decided it was too clean for having been ours for almost a week, so we went "Grouse Hunting" knowing full well we'd see nuttin' in the monsoony rains, that turned into some strange white stuff a few hundred feet higher. But now we can say we took it hunting already.

First off...  YOU DON'T CALL JEEPS, "CARS"!

It's a Jeep!

Congrats though.   ;)

heh heh heh.... yeah I know that about Jeepeople.  Good friend of mine is and it annoys him to no end when I refer to my new CAR.  Didn't seem to bug him when I called my Gpa's 95 Ranger "my car" but it sure does with the Jeep!  I 'spose I could have said my 1st new vehicle... except I have had many new bicycles.. my 1st new motor vehicle?  Well that sounds silly.

He has already sent me to many many websites for offroad stuff, but if y'all know of any brick & mortar shops in south Puget Sound I'd love to go check out the wares there.  I'd prefer buying stuff locally if possible.  LOVE the Jeep.  Just love it.

You might check out Billy Bob's Offroad. He's got a shop in South hill/Puyallup and on South Tacoma way I think.

I was going to move this thread to General Discussion, but since there's a doggie in the window... I guess it can stay in the dog thread, so lets hear how the pups like the new ride.

Nice looking rig.

Not a Ford, unfortunately

But then again.. at least it is not a Chevy..   :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Regardless of what you call your new sled, the "driver" is quite happy with your decision.

Well, to be honest... I chose the hunting dogs section because the MAIN reason we got the Jeep was so we could do more bird hunting.  I am absolutely serious when I say that we wouldn't even discuss anything with the dealership sales guys until we had put 2 crates in the back to make sure they fit.  From a bad experience when Jeni got the RAV4 many years ago... Now we put actual crates in before considering the vehicle.  Measuring is not enough.  We are also getting running boards installed when we get our tax return 90% for the dogs' ease in getting in.  (Ooops.. I just outted myself that most times the dogs don't ride in the crates in the back... maybe no one will notice that....) Ahem.  10% because we humans are of a stature that makes climbing into the car a climb.  If it was just us we wouldn't be buying running boards, we'd just deal with it.

I do still own my FORD '95 Ranger that had been my grandfather's before, so I am still a registered card-carrying Ford owner.  It just isn't my main ride anymore.  We say we have put it out to pasture to enjoy the sun, the grass, and occasional hauling.  However, being that it was not a 4x4 it was just not the best vehicle for hunting, especially as we discover more overgrown logging roads leading to grousey-looking spots.  The Jeep is a much better tool for stalking dem boids.  Besides, this time next year I expect y'all to be mighty tired of seeing harvest photos taken on the back bumper of the Jeep, so this struck me as the most appropriate place to introduce it.  (Of course mods may move it at their whim!  No offense here!)

Jokingly I started calling the Jeep "Bender" from Futurama.  We'll see if it sticks.

The Clumbers absolutely LOVE the Jeep - they have the entire backseat area to themselves and they stretch out deliriously happy.  Mona already knows the word "Jeep" because on the days I take her to work with me I tell her which car to run to as I open the door.  "Taking the Jeep today" and she runs to it and waits at the PAX door. If I say "Jeni's" she runs to the Escape.  If I say "truck" off she goes to the Ranger.  Gambel, the oddball goofy English Cocker hasn't ridden in it yet.  He and Briggs have been having ISSUES since the last time the girls came into season (summertime) so they aren't out together and it has just happened that has kept Gman from testing-riding the Jeep.  His "tutoring" session, now that he has finished his bench championship, is on the calendar, we just want to make sure his breeder - a friend of ours - has an opportunity to collect/freeze him before that procedure.  This is absolutely the last time I have 2 intact adult boys in the pack again.  GUH.

HOORAH!  I'm still so jacked about it that when I get up in the middle of the night, I peek out the window to see that it is there in the driveway!

Congratulations on your new ride.  I have been looking at them as well. You sure do not see very many of those on Craigslist.
