Two guns in possession?
« on: August 12, 2011, 11:44:31 AM »
Can you carry two guns while grouse hunting or is this a big no no?  I had two of my grandfather's guns repaired/worked on that I'd love to take with me on the 9/1 opener, however, since I'm car camping there is no way in hell I'm leaving one of them behind.  One  is a model '24' o/u which I know I can take down and fit within my pack, the other might be a little bit difficult since it is not so compact when taken down - 11-48 sportsman, which I might just strap to my backpack.

I can't think of a reason you can't. Nothing I've ever seen in game regs says how many guns you can have, only types in regards to shell cap and caliber.

its no different than goin out with your sav.300 to whack a deer, and bringing your 22 along to get a grouse or rabbit. besides its not like you are gonna rambo it and have one in each hand....
catch it. kill it. cook it. eat it.

Don't give the WDFW any ideas...they'll be charging a fee for an extra gun next.

Legal in my book and I wouldn't think twice about it.  Now I'm not sure if Wa has some ridiculous law prohibiting it (it wouldn't surprise me if they did).   I would just do it and fight the battle in court if they tried to say I couldn't do it.  Too many people are afraid to do stuff that is perfectly legal (or should be) and then it becomes the norm.   I'll carry a firearm in any vehicle I want, and whenever I want...I don't care if it's archery season and I'm hunting with a bow, as long as I'm not using that firearm for illegal purposes there should be no problem.  They might give you a hard time...but if you got your ducks in a row you have nothing to worry about.

AS long as you dont point the .223 at a deer or elk it is legal.

yep looks like everyone is on the right track to me. I often have other guns in my truck. Back a few years they ran the Blackpowder Elk hunt right up to the modern deer hunt. We were hunting elk in Naches & had a deer camp at Twisp. Not wanting to come back to westside we packed all the guns we would need.
I am careful about having the modern guns cased. But heck you might be there camped and hunting and want to target practice some where close by.
Never been a problem and I have been checked many times.
