Lake Chelan Fishing?
« on: July 02, 2008, 01:46:34 PM »
Going up to spend a few days at some friends cabin, they don't fish and have no knowledge of fishing there, was curious to see if anyone has some information about fishing the lake.  Only seen the lake on the map and it is huge!!!!!  Looking at maybe rainbow? maybe Lakers?  Anyone have any advise on what areas that fishing is a little more productive...  Were really just going for fun than fishing but figure, well were there right.....

Also, side track note, what areas do the Sheep hang out, going to explore anyhow but general areas are alot better than the whole lake...  I appreciate any information you guys can provide....  Figure, I better explore the area that I'M GETTING DRAWN FOR in couple days!!!!!!!!!

There was a post on here earlier last month about the fish. Hit that guy up for some info. Here is those pics: http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,8023.0.html

As for sheep try north side of the lake around Safety Harbor.

Yeah, most of the sheep are on the north side of the lake from about the 25mile creek campground down.  Directly across from the campground is where I have found most of the rams on the open grass hillsides.

As far as fishing...kokanee are good.  Typical kokanee gear works well.  I usually fish up near Stehekin so that's where I'm most knowledgeable.  Good luck.

I usually fish it for smallmouth but we use to do well where any of the up-lake creeks dump into the lake.  We used yellow rooster tails or eggs and hit the mouths of the creeks.  It is better when it is overcast or the sun is down a bit.

I fished Chelan 2 weeks ago for the first time. We targeted smallies and did really well. Nothing really big but quite a few in the 1-2.5lb range. Plastic grubs and spinnerbaits in the flats and tube baits up on the docks. Also ran into a bunch of squawfish (now known as pike minnow).

Check out "Darrell and Dad's Family Guide Service" website. Anton Jones is the guide and he publishes a weekly fishing report with what's biting and where and also gives tips on tackle, depth and speed.
