Antler buyers.
« on: July 08, 2007, 11:16:57 AM »
Never thought I would want to sell some of my collection, but now I'm considering it.  Anyone know of an antler buyer in the Puget Sound region or Western Wa. or Wa. in general?  Want to sell the whole antler, not just the tines.

I hear ya hunterofelk, I never thought I would be selling any of my bones, but I sold a pair of blacktail sheds to Michelle, and have recently been seen cutting tines off.  OUCH Nice looking calls he makes though, so thats better than just cash, and Michelle gets a great mount for her shop.  That will probably be enough for me for about 10 years.

I've got about 140 lbs of elk antler, a few raghorns, but most six-point or better from average-sized bulls.  I'm moving to a smaller place and I can't store them for very long.  I never thought I would ever sell them, but never say never I guess.  Thanks for the info.

Well......at $20 a pound, that isn't bad.  Plus I know you ave a few that would fetch one hell of a price off of e-bay.

Best offer I've been given is $5.00/lb.  That price is lower than what I got in the early '80's in Montana.  I don't know why some people go to the lengths they do to pick up some sheds at these prices.  I was keeping them for the memories, but now those memories are too much.

What do you have in the way of matching sheds?  I am considering another display for my shop.

Do you have pics of the bigger sets. Are they roosevelts? I've paid good money for nice sets for displays, Let me know what you got. I think I'm about the 3rd or 4th in line . I'll wait my turn.

I have more singles than sets.  I am not the best source for sheds, I just want to make some room since my divorce and moving into an apartment.  I would take the best offer as long as it didn't come out to 5.00 a pound.

Just my opinion but, if ya got a few weeks and the patience EBAY is the only way to go. Ive seen PLeNTY of non-matching 4 x 4 elk sheds sell for 50-75$.

I started to buy a single shed at a yard sell but the guy wanted 80$ for one shed   small 6 pt!

Ill take a few off of ya. Are they all sheds or were some from kills? Those go for more on ebay.

My email is LONGTATLAW@YAHOO.COM    email me some pics of any nice sheds ya have...Ill make ya an offer... a set or two would add to my trophy room!

I've bought a bunch of antlers on e-bay from singles to shed sets to complete sets. I paid $560.00 for a 397 velvet bull which is a monster, actually you can see them on a post I have under pictures of my taxidermy work, and Ive paid as little as $110.00 for a matching set of 315 6x6 sheds in great shape. Do you have any BIG sets? I'll pay good money if its what I want.

I agree $5 per lb for a trophy rack is way under priced.  I happen to be one of those antler buyers.  But $5 per lb for average brown elk antler is the average price.

Bearmanric - thanx for the mention!!

Bucklucky,
I have a elk set from the boyscout auction, you might want to come over and take a look at it.

I believe it was a net score of 340, but you gotta see it to really appreciate it. It has some serious palmation, and I may have forgotten to mention that it is a shed set.  If I get a chance I can try to take a picture, but you really have to see it.

Keep your very best & favorites though! I think you will be glad later on to still have some of them. I always sold mine to Don Schauffler in Ennis so do not know anyone around here.
