Prairie Chickens
« on: May 07, 2012, 12:59:57 PM »
I recently went to Oklahoma to photograph the Lesser and Greater Prairie Chicken on their leks.  Here are a few from the trip.  Notice how the barring is less distinct and the air sack is more red on the Lesser.  All shots with 5D3 and 500mm F4 L IS.  With no native habitat the Lesser is fading quickly and will be on the endangered species list soon.  I wanted to get shots while they are still here.  Cool birds and I've heard they are tasty.

Wow, awesome shots Pope,
Only 2 defining forces sacrificed themselves for you:
The American Soldier and Jesus Christ. One died for your freedom, the other for your soul.

My rock,
He trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle.

How far away are you from the birds in those shots?
