Oregon Draw???
« on: May 14, 2012, 04:12:20 AM »
Anyone in for the Oregon draw?  My plan was to just apply for points and a sheep tag.  But ended up putting in for tags for deer, elk, antelope and sheep.  I should have a pretty good chance at drawing an elk tag and an antelope tag.  At least I think I do.  8)

I put in for a buck tag at our farm. Its always nice to hunt down there.  Good luck to everyone in the draw!

I have 14 loper points, but I put in for a point saver.  Our second baby is due mid June, and I didn't want to leave my wife for 10 days that soon after giving birth.  I'll should draw in 2013, but now my dilemma is wondering if I should just let them build for a few more years to get a really great tag, or just take Whitehorse with what I have.  I'm done with elk/deer in Oregon.  I guess I'll continue putting in for sheep there as long as I'm able to hunt them.  They say it takes a lucky guy 30 years to draw that tag... I have 5-6 to go (and then I gotta get lucky).

I have a mess of antelope points but haven't didn't apply last or this year. I probably won't apply until...

A. The quality gets better for deer and elk
B. The quality gets better to justify their double cost in fees.

Until then I'd rather chase speed goats in WY. :twocents:

I never did apply for sheep, probably should have when I started but I have been for a number of years in NV so I'm hoping within the next 5 or 6 years I have a legitimate chance at chasing sheep in NV.

MS, I believe you lose your Oregon points for a species if you don't apply 2 years in a row. Is Oregon past the deadline to apply?

Yeah its past, deadline is the 15th.  I'm all in, and hoping to draw a buck permit this year.

I found the answer on the ODFW website:
Quote
Hunters will not forfeit their preference points if they do no apply for a hunt series for two or more consecutive years. Preference points remain in the system until they are redeemed.

Yeah you don't lose points if you skip in OR.

Now that WA has posted there draw results OR should be next.  The last two years they have posted results on june 16th so we are getting close.  I still have my fingers crossed for drawing a good mule deer tag this year.  But i'm running out of states that still haven't posted draw results.

Ive got 15 points for elk & Antelope and 10 for deer. I figure I have about a 17% chance on antelope. I kinda hope I dont draw this year, I'll have enough to keep me busy with the Wyoming bison tag.

I couldn't imagine with all the luck I've had in the Washington draws that I'd be so fortunate in Oregon as well.  But I'm still hoping.
