I have written my representatives several times over the past couple weeks (local reps, congresswomen, even the president himself) stating that I do not agree with their support for a renewed assault weapons ban. I have received responses from all three of my congresswomen (Murray, Cantwell, Herrera-Butler).
But each of those responses is a simple blanket email response that does nothing to address the concerns I have. (Herrera-Butler is a Republican who does not support a renewed ban). Murray and Cantwell write that 'they supported the previous ban and will do so again.'
I wrote them a second and third time asking for a personal response to my concerns, and I recieved the same blanket response.
I don't know what we need to do to make sure that our letters/emails are being read, but as far as I can tell, there is an automatic reply feature in their email that shoots out the appropriate response to the subject in the letter. I don't know if writing these people will do any good, seeing as their minds are made up to support exactly what the people do not.
That being said, its all we can do right now and I will continue to send emails to deaf ears.

I write twice a week but when I come across drafts like the ones in the links that is on top of the other two. My wife does the same.
A big thanks to anyone else who sends letters. They really do matter.

I get the same blanket responses back as well. We can't let up. Keep writing and keep calling; it does make a difference. I think when we start getting the same responses, it's an indication they have made a basic decision on that topic and are just letting you know where they currently stand. However, if they keep receiving communications contrary to their position, I would like to think they would reconsider; after all, they are supposed to represent us.
In any event, my philosophy is:
Words not written or spoken are words not read or heard.
We must keep up the pressure; our Rights and Freedoms are at stake!
I hope those that voted the Democratic ticket just because they are Democrats are starting to see that voting party lines is not healthy for this country or our freedoms. All votes should go with candidates that we know will protect and preserve our Rights and Freedoms as guaranteed by our Constitution and Bill of Rights regardless of which party the votes go to. We were clearly warned what Obama and his administration would do if he was elected to a second term; the tragedy in Connecticut gave him and all his anti-gun followers an excuse to open the floodgates on attacks on our Second Amendment and related freedoms. If you are a Democrat, write the offending representatives and tell them you are a Democrat, but will not vote for them again because of their anti-gun actions. I feel pretty comfortable concluding that people that hunt and own guns are both Republicans and Democrats.

Done. Our country has lost its moral compass and seems to enjoy the slide down every slippery slope.
