Shockwave bonded vs Barnes Tmz for New Mexico Muzzy Elk

Saw this in a post in 2010, but wanted to get some new input on Shockwave Bonded vs Barnes tmz for elk.

Also, thoughts on shooting 250 vs 300 grain?

I am sold on the BH209.

T/C bonded 250=Fail(can email pictures of the slug last year)

get the 290g Barnes either the TMZ(boattail) or 290g TEZ(flatbase).....and your good for anything. Zero 3" high @ 100 yards and dont look back.

BH209=nothing better if you can use a 209 primer

400 grain hard cast lead Harvester M/L bullets.

I know it wasn't one of your choices, but I am absolutely in love with these bullets.     (elk really hate them)

Go with the 'yote' suggestions... there is a world of difference between a Barnes and any Hornady which is a TC Shockwave

Go with the 290 tmz they are a great bullet and won't let you down

Thanks guys. Just ordered some Barnes spitfire t-ez through cabelas. I got a tc prohunter,so I thought the t-ez may be better for my barrel. Let's see how they shoot on the range!

I doubt very much that you would get the TMZ's loaded in a TC product without a fight, but the with TEZ's you have a good chance.

Have you looked at the .458-300 grain Knight Bloodlines at all?  That what I use over here during the rifle season when I can use a modern ML..

The Barnes 290 gr T-EZ arrived and I took them to the range with the TC Pro Hunter FX. I have to tell you I was impressed. 1/2-1 inch groupings with 6 shots at 100 yards. They were as easy/easier to load as the shockwaves and seemed to be more accurate..... Best part is, they were cheaper than the shockwaves!!!

Shockwaves ended up being $1.50 per bullet
Barnes T EZ 290 gr was $1.25 per bullet

I'm sold!
