Sorry to hear about the job loss.  I too drew the Archery Quality Bull tag.  Good luck on your hunt.

I have hunted Rimrock for a long time and the best info I can give you is make sure you are there the first few days of the season before the weekend warriors are there because everyone and their brother hunts up there anymore and everyone has a bugle and cow calls :bash: so those bulls go completely silent! If you are gonna call than keep the bugling to a minimum or not at all!  After the crowds show up you are gonna have to find the thickest nastiest hillsides and that is where the elk will be!  Don't be afraid to go deep and get in shape!  good luck!

Google earth is your best tool but green trails maps are pretty good.  You will need the White pass #303 and Walupt lake #335 maps to get the whole unit.  Feel free to pm me if you have any questions,  I have walked about every square inch of that unit over the years and I have helped 3 friends fill bull tags since 2005, 2 muzzleloader and 1 archery.  My friends dad has a muzzy tag in there this year so I will be scouting around like always.

You can order maps from the USGS website. The ones that show the greatest detail are the "Quads".  These are the 1:24000 scale.

I allso drew a modern bull tag for rimrock and i know the area very well. Been elk hunting up there for 16 years and the best map i have found is a firemans map and you can pick one up in Naches at the forest service station there. It is a great map in my mind because is shows you every bunny tral road and jeep trail and there up to date.
Whack em and stack em

You can download USFS 1:24K maps for free at the following site.  They are regular USGS maps w/NFS roads and facilities included.
