rubber boots and hunting which brand do you prefer and why
« on: June 30, 2012, 08:51:14 AM »
I have been looking at Rubber boots tired of my feet getting wet, I found that I can buy a size 7 in mens and they will fit my feet, but not sure which ones to buy LaCrosse, they seem a little tall for my calfs, Muck boots or Irish Setter, I am wondering what you guys wear and how they perform. I have Danners, Rocky and one other brand ? of leather Gortex boots but my feet still get soaked. This year it is dry dry dry :) Thanks for your input

I've used Lacrosse burly alpha uninsulated for 3+ seasons. Good for walking and still hunting, but not so much for sitting long periods.  My feet get wet from sweat, but this is no different from leather.  They fit well and are super comfortable, and I don't have to worry about crossing small creeks and streams, or about getting into calf height snow.

I wear a heavy smart wool sock and always carry an extra pair, so that I could change them out if I had to for dryer feet.

They are a bit tough to dry out, but do well enough in a heated car or by the woodstove in a wall tent.

I had my wife pick me up a pair of Mucks for this season. I got them for Christmas and love them. For me they have a really good foot bed and support. I found that I can wear them all day and they fir like a charm with out any problems. I would diffenetly recommend trying them on and see which ones fit your foot the best.  Good Luck!

I really like my muck boots.  Have not tried other but cheapies so can not give a good opinion.  Find what fits you best and has the insulation you want and try them.

I don't hunt in mucks but use them at work all winter. They are comfortable, keep my feet warm and most importantly keep them dry.

Lacrosse boots seem to always fit me fairly well I have very long thin legs and feet....I wear a mens size 8 normal to narrow width works with good wool socks.

My other rubber boots were designed like field boots for riding horses so also very tall and very fitted.

Many of the horse, farm, and landscape people use the mucks which come in several heights from shoe to mid calf to full calf, I find the mucks a bit loose and sloppy on my feet.  Columbia makes a knock off but the design the heel bed is cantilevered over the sole and felt awkward to me I doubt I'd want to do a lot of hill climbing in them.  The main issue is always good fit you dont want your foot sliding around and most rubber boots are designed for flat ground work or boat decks and docks, try on as many as you can to compare fit, march around heck run jump bounce around make sure they stay snug.....

thankfully I now live on the dry side and really rubber boots aren't too much of a necessity over here :)

Bought a pair of insulated Bogg boots a couple years ago. Best thing I ever did. They are pricey for rubber boots, but they are very comfortable. They are similar to muck boots, but the pair I bought have a better sole for walking than the mucks I have seen.
Costco has Bogg boots for $60..
If its brown knock it down

I have used the boggs in new zealand when hunting in the river bottoms. Never owned a pair but used a set of my buddies. They worked great and felt pretty good as well. If I was on the wet side I would buy a pair. The only time it seems to rain and be wet over here is when we cut our hay :bash:
