Another option is just wading for them.  Low tide and find some eel grass and your in an area that should hold crab.  There's a few beaches here in the north sound where I've had good luck wading for nice size crab.  You'd be surprised how fast a crab can run...

yep....little buggers can hustle. Shoot....30 feet would be nice with a wetsuit and weight belt.

I can't scuba.  underwater phobia or something.  Never have been able to do it.  I remember scooting around the low tides in my dad's dinghy with a net on a 15' pole chasing crabs

Today's tide yielded 3 red rocks.  Got the pot out 150' from the dock at about 1pm and let the tide get high at 2pm and pulled them in about 3pm.  Still no problems driving the boat with just my hands.  I think I'm going to try and add 100' of rope to the 150' I already have.  Anyone know where I can get an underwater topo map for Pickering Passage?  I thought Google maps would have it but it doesn't.  I want to see if another 100' will get me much deeper or if it wouldn't be worth it.

PM me your email address and I can send you all the underwater topo maps you'll ever need!  Also, if you decide H2O's idea is a good one, I can get you a mask, fins, snorkel, wet boots and wet gloves, probably for free (on the condition that you give your word to not freedive for crab alone).

oops, just saw this.  Well, still, if you want fins to help push that inflatable around, I'm sure I can get you a good set, no charge.

.....and let me know if you want those topo maps!

So I went crabbing yesterday... all by myself... alone... with 2 empty seats... :'(
I wanted to go, but was doing yard work and didn't check the page until it was too late.

yea, I just don't know what it is.  I can swim under water and feel fine.  I can't scuba or use a snorkel.  When I try to breath with my mouth underwater, I  panic and freak out.  I was told I am breathing in too much air and to breath slower but then I think too much about what I'm doing there to do anything else.  Just decided I wouldn't do it.

Hope I can get the boat done before the season end.  Checking for leaks in the picture.

Overnight soak baited heavy with flounder paid off. Three pots, 8 keepers plus the 6 I may have left in a pot overnight makes 14.....home, boat clean and put away by 10. Launched at 7 so not bad.

Mine went back in at 12:30 and I'll pull it again at 6pm.  Then I'll re-bait and put it back out for a 24hr soak

Just 3 tonight but it was on bait that had been used 3 times before.  It was almost gray lol

Pot got dropped back at 6pm for a 24 hour soak with fresh turkey neck cut up nice to let lots of scent out.  I say 7 keepers tomorrow night.  my sons say 5, 8, and 10.  My wife, the negative nancy says 4

If one of those red rocks gets hold of your dog(s) you are gonna be awfully sad when you see the vet bill! I can just about guarantee that stitches will be required!
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.
