Sleeping pads
« on: July 02, 2012, 09:48:16 PM »
I am looking into buying a new sleeping pad and was looking at the REI Stratus http://www.rei.com/product/828460/rei-stratus-insulated-air-pad.  Anyone have any experience with it?  The NeoAir's sound nice but spendy. Are they worth the extra money?  I will be using it on the Westside ML elk season so it won't be too cold out yet.
Thanks in advance for any info.

I've been using that pad all year since it came out. It packs up nice and small, isn't super heavy, and is very comfortable to sleep on. The side rails kind of cradle you which is really nice IMO. Great pad for the price

I have the stratus.  It is very good value (price to weight) and quite comfy.  I used it for two nights this past weekend with no issues or air loss.  Getting another couple nights in it before the season to make sure it will hold up but seems to be so far.  For less than $60 it was a steal!

Wow! Where did you find it for $60 bucks?  REI wants like $90 bucks for it.

Thanks for the feed back, I think I will get one and try it out.

I used to use thermarest inflatables for backcountry trips, but constanly worried about them failing and just resorted back to foam pad type sleeping pads. Can bring them out around the fire without worry, attach them to the pack and dump the pack with out worry etc... don't have to mess with them at camp or after the hike...

Anyone ever have one fail and spend the night on rocks? Able to fix it at camp?
