new to us knight and new to muzzys
« on: July 15, 2012, 01:40:06 AM »
i bought my wife a 50 cal knight for our anniversary but nether of use have ever shot muzzys before. she is planing on using it for bear deer and elk this year. i would like for her to know as much as she can before season (the max range, what works best, what to do and not do) we have read about every post on muzzy. the only thing i really know is to tape the ram rod and the barrel . i have bought 4 speed loaders 200 gr shock waves 250 gr hornady SST low drag bullets no 11 mag primers ,209  primers , pyrodex 50/50  pre formed charges , a nipple wrench, and in-line speed primer and muzzle loader multi lube ) i know we cant use the 209 primers but well that pretty much all we know. i don't want us to blow ourselves up or mess up muzzy and i would like her to be able to make quick clean kills. thank you for any help or advice. i would post pics but i cant from my PC
I'm your huckleberry

50/50 pyeodex pellets is fine = 100gr's, either bullet would be fine for deer some guys use them for elk but I perfer 300 gr for elk. Mag # 11 or musket caps is the way to go 209 illegal in washington.

I really think when you get use to shooting it and want to hunt for all those differant animals I would go to 300 gr bullets and use that on all of them !! but thats your decision. thats all i shoot for everything i hunt, deer and elk.

Just remember when you load the pellets the dark end goes in first read the instructions !!!!! I perfer loose powder little more time consuming but worth it to me
I've had bad luck with pellets.

when sighting in clean barrell after every shot simply DAMPEN !!! very very little moisture just enough to DAMPEN the patch swap barrell a couple times then run a dry patch threw it a couple times wait a few seconds then load shoot then do it all over again untill adjust sights if necassary once its going were you want then shoot it a few times untill it gets harder to load then clean barrell again.

You don't need to clean it every shot after shooting when hunting i would swap out the barrel after UNLOADING it when i get back to camp ONLY !!! if I shot it at an animal,I don't unload (shoot) it if i haven't shot it,that day, ileave it loaded untill I shoot at something or am leaving and going home, some guys un;load it every night
Thats fine,i don't.

The only reason I would is if its been raining and has been just a really nasty shi--- day.

Your going to love the knight their great and very accurate.Remember when sighting in you move the rear sight the direction you want the bullet to go !!!

Take your time and CLEAN it very good when your all done and going to put it away
DON'T put it off
