Waptus lake
« on: July 22, 2012, 09:19:29 PM »
Heading up to waptus lake this weekend by way of trail creek, for some fishing and exploring some of the higher lakes in the area, heard some are still iced over and creeks are running high, anyone have any recent reports.

The trail crew has cleared to the horse fjord, but that is on the river trail. Have not heard about trail creek, but I could ask tommorow and let you know what they say about it. I do know the snow has been hanging around for a long time this summer.

I spoke to the ranger in cle elum last week, no reports yet for trail creek but alot of the lakes above 5000 feet are still iced over, and the horse fjord at waptus is running waist deep, last year in late august had to cross snow drifts in some places, heavy snow last winter makes for some interesting high country scouting.

Thanks brandon, if trail creek isnt passable we might go in by way of deep lake and avoid the creek crossings.

Trail creek is free of snow, but there are a lot of trees across the trail. I was told it would be a difficult hike. Deception pass has deep snow beyond Hyas lake, trail crew said it is impassable. The only route in may be the waptus river trail, except for the fact that the horse fjord is still very high.
